Vee Jay 201. "Red Sails In The Sunset" / "Lovely Way To Spend An Evening"
Considered by many to be the Holy Grail but it's not actually a repro.
These two sides were taken from an LP on Solid Smoke.
The original Vee Jay 201 is by The Argo Gospel Singers.
As far as I know, all copies are on red wax.
The wax on my copy has turned very dark over the years.
Here's a scarce one. Actually, the only one I've ever seen. Same recording as the Flames on the same label with the same number. Not a very good scan, but the wax is blue and the labels are the same blue color as the Flames on Spin and the Cherokees on Grand
Here's one you don't see every day.
The Nic Nacs were actually the Robins.
The female in the group is Micky Champion.
Very hard to find repro. Never originally issued
as a 45. Flip side is "You Didn't Want My Love"
Pressed 3 times as a 78.
#313in 1950
#316 in 1951
and #342 also in 1951
#316 is supposed to be the hardest.
Despite the lousy scan, this is actually red wax.
It has gotten darker over the years.
I don't know too many collectors that have this.
It took a long time to find.
Group is not related to any other Royals group.
Excellent 2-sided record.
Names are not mentioned to protect the innocent.....
This is NOT the M. R. boot.
The printing on the label is much cleaner and crisper.
This was given to me by V. S. from Upper Darby, PA.
after he bought the original.
He explained that it was done in the 60's and only 5 or 6 copies were pressed.
Dead wax info:
Rosemarie 1301 (small) LW (faint)
Never Love Another 1302 (large) LW
Treat 505
The Five Stars "We Danced In The Moonlight".
This has a SHINY label and BLUE wax.
Does not mention "Disk Jockey Record" or "Not for Sale".
Only seen twice in 40 years.
Not to be confused with the flat
black label version that was done in different colors.
